One extended cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner left without her and returned later that day after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation located her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that travelers and personnel on the vessel were told that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of currency to join the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Statement

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and distressed that the ship left the location after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little details we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She continued that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have protected Her existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mother took sick on the uphill trek," she explained.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, seemingly without conducting a roll call.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or shortly after, mum died, alone."

Operator Response

Via official communication, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to support their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The vessel serves up to 120 travelers with 46 staff, according to official information. It was specially constructed to access remote locations of the nation's coast and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to transport passengers on shore trips.

Incidents like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have procedures to track which individuals are embarking or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship simply isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Shipping companies consider these processes extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such incidents from occurring," the specialist added.
