The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
