The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit series coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.
“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Given that the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.
“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
