Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

Team management stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of the fifth over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
