Tinged with racial prejudice and a deep-seated contempt for Europe's governing bodies and elected leaders, he has spoken about the risk of societal collapse on a continent he has rarely visited and mostly seen from a distance.

These developments requires a firm reaction from capitals across Europe. Although certain figures, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have been blunt in their pushback, including British officials—have continued with a policy of attempting to appease the White House.
