Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
