From Struggling to Imperfect – Is There Any Team Want to Win the Big Game During This Campaign?
No league markets equal footing as effectively as the NFL: it defines their identity. However, after 10 weeks in this campaign, this doesn't represent a landscape featuring uniform distribution among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. It’s one where most of the league appear to be sufficient.
NFC Standings Definition
Looking at the NFC side, at least, there is some clarity. The Rams and Seahawks (both at 7-2) seem like the most balanced franchises in football, and achieved decisive victories on Sunday. The Eagles with six wins notwithstanding their difficulties maintain a deeply skilled squad throughout football, likewise with the Packers franchise (five wins, two losses, one tie). Detroit as well (6-3 standing), who have been inconsistent in trench play while managing internal staff conflicts, have shown they're capable of dominating good teams. Regarding these five teams, you can still easily put together a Super Bowl path.
AFC Playoff Chaos
Turning to the American Football Conference, championship race is thoroughly confusing. Your four division leaders after ten games: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (each with 8-2 records) and the Steelers (5-4). Consider that carefully. No Chiefs presence. No Bills inclusion. Neither Ravens nor Bengals. The traditional powers, featuring elite NFL signal-callers, possess either obvious team deficiencies or have been hit by injuries.
Competitive Balance System
In some ways, it’s the league’s ideal. However, witnessing the current division frontrunners in the American Football Conference remains somewhat odd. Aspects of each franchise meet championship standards, though not comprehensively. If someone requested to lock in your AFC Championship game picks today, would you confidently select any one of the current division frontrunners?
Franchise Analysis
Indianapolis Colts
Beginning with the Colts, their quarterback hasn’t quite reached total collapse. But the last two weeks have raised concerns. He has returned to turning over the ball and struggling against pressure. He suffered seven sacks versus Atlanta during Sunday's contest, and endured a brief period in which he threw an interception and coughed up the ball thrice. This is a week after he committed turnovers on five occasions against the Steelers.
The Colts’ offense performed well initially because Jones avoided game-changing errors. Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line make the Colts capable of overcoming occasional setbacks, like their German performance. Yet Jones going back to his historically mistake-heavy play would end any playoff run.
New England Analysis
New England appears relatively comparable. Last season, they were considered jokes. Currently, they represent the league’s happiest surprise and the most successful franchise in the NFL post seven wins in a row. If not for losing due to fumbles a manageable matchup against Pittsburgh, they would currently hold nine wins, one loss with the best record. In the prior year, they were old and slow. Currently they're youthful, quick and confident. Still, it’s hard to ignore the weakness of New England's opponents. They've played against the least challenging lineup in the league, and flaws have still emerged. Their quarterback has been sacked 35 times – the second-most in football – including particular impacts he endured during the game were vicious. Over time, those hits add up.
Broncos Situation
The Broncos hold also 8-2, yet it seems as if they’re holding their breath. Their quarterback has been erratic, and the offense plodding, with the defense doing the majority of the work. Absent adequate signal-calling, Denver cannot intimidate playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending in the Western division at 7-2, however, health issues affecting their protection unit will create difficulties to mount a deep postseason tilt.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh exists, surprisingly atop their division even after suffering a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers on Sunday night. They've been outscored overall, their defense regularly vanishes, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations during his career phase continue to show up. They maintain a 5-4 record while surviving, yet Baltimore, featuring a recovered Jackson and the schedule softening, have won three consecutive. We shouldn't be completely astonished that the Ravens have pulled to within one game of Pittsburgh, though the speed of this shift represents criticism toward Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. That the Ravens started losing five of six and still look like likely to claim the title reveals much about the entire AFC.
Established Contenders
The Ravens' form part of the Big Three – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, who could still create the greatest concern in opposing teams if they qualified. They’re the No One Wants To See ‘Em teams, yet Kansas City and Buffalo continue to self-destruct.
Buffalo Bills
Last week, the Bills felt confident after beating the Chiefs. On Sunday they suffered among the season's worst defeats during the campaign. They didn’t just lose to the Dolphins; they were embarrassed, dropping a 30-13 road game. The Dolphins secured their first triumph over the Bills in several seasons.
