Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Problems and Player Response

The manager highlighted known failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
